The web game is a short taste of Piano Game in Piano Aura. In the app you choose from many more songs, unlock new levels as you play, and set the speed for the hard parts — on your iPhone.

Is there a free piano game I can play online?

Yes. The Piano Game from Piano Aura runs free in your browser with no download or account: choose one of five songs, play the melody as the notes fall onto an on-screen keyboard while the accompaniment plays for you, and finish with a score, stars and accuracy.

How to play the Piano Game

  1. 1Choose a song. Pick one of the five pieces. If you are new to the piano, start with Twinkle Twinkle Little Star or Ode to Joy.
  2. 2Set the speed. 1× is the song's normal tempo. 0.5× gives you twice as long to find each key; 1.5× and 2× are for when you know it.
  3. 3Catch the notes. The accompaniment starts on its own. Play each falling note as it touches the line above the keys: green notes are white keys, yellow notes are black keys, and a key lights up just before its note arrives.
  4. 4Read your score. Every note you catch scores points — most for dead on time — and your accuracy sets the stars. Play again to beat your best streak.

The songs

Every piece here is in the public domain: Beethoven's Ode to Joy and Für Elise, and the traditional Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, Bella Ciao and Amazing Grace. They are the same arrangements as Piano Game in Piano Aura: one part plays the accompaniment for you, the other is the melody you play.

Questions about the Piano Game

Do I need to read music to play?
No. Each note falls onto the key you need to press, so you play by watching the screen. If you want to put names to the keys, the piano notes guide on this site shows every one.
Can I play with my computer keyboard?
Yes. On a computer every key shows a letter: the home row (A, S, D, F…) plays the white keys and the row above (W, E, T, Y, U…) plays the black keys.
What counts as a caught note?
A note counts when you play the right key as it reaches the line: right on time scores the most, a touch early or late scores less, and a note that passes unplayed is missed. A key pressed when no note is there breaks your streak.
Does it work on a phone?
Yes. The keyboard shows only the keys the song uses, so it fits a phone held upright. Turn the volume up before you press Play.
