A free metronome that runs right in your browser and installs as an app. Set any tempo from 30 to 300 BPM, tap it in, pick from 40 time signatures, add subdivisions and accents, then go full screen. Sound starts only when you press play.

How to use the metronome
- 1Set your tempo. Drag the slider, tap − and +, or use the arrow keys to choose any tempo from 30 to 300 BPM. The Italian tempo marking (Adagio, Allegro…) updates as you go.
- 2Or tap it in. Not sure of the tempo? Tap the Tap tempo button (or press T) in time with the music and the metronome matches your pace.
- 3Choose a time signature and subdivision. Pick any time signature from 2/2 to 12/16, then add a subdivision of two, three or four clicks per beat to lock in eighths, triplets or sixteenths.
- 4Shape the accents. Tap any beat light to cycle it between accented, normal and silent. Silence a beat to test whether you keep time on your own.
- 5Go full screen or install it. Press Full screen for a giant beat display that keeps your screen awake, or install the metronome as an app so it opens from your home screen and works offline.
Why practise with a metronome?
A steady pulse is the fastest way to build clean, even timing. Start a new piece slower than feels natural, lock in every note against the click, then nudge the tempo up a few BPM at a time. The accented downbeat helps you feel where each bar begins, which makes tricky rhythms far easier to count.
